Helios
An enthusiastic cyclist develops a way to make a normal bike into a smart bike, improving its security and navigation.
Ordinary bikes are still quite low-tech when it comes to their security and navigation. Avid cyclist Kenny Gibbs wanted to change that. He launched a Kickstarter campaign, dedicated to raising funds for the world’s first integrated headlight and blinker system for bikes. The smart handlebars use GPS and Bluetooth, aiming to revolutionaries the biking experience.
Helios bars can be assembled with almost any bike and are easy to install. They are fitted with such features as proximity lighting, left and right turn signals, and GPS tracking via SMS (currently available in US only). There is also a ‘speedometer’- the rear-facing light that changes colour according to how fast the rider is going.
It seems like a truly smart bike is not too far off. The Kickstarter campaign target has already been reached. For $199 Helios Bars can be purchased in two styles and two colours. But for $250, they come in a variety of shades.
