For Heineken’s latest Open Design Exploration - a series of design projects that explores future visions of nightlife design - twenty young urban, interior and light designers from Warsaw, New York, Mexico City and Singapore, will join forces to create a branded pop-up lounge bar.
Tens of thousands of Instagrammers responded to Heineken’s challenge to illustrate what “social design exploration” meant in the context of a great lounging experience. The crowd-sourced feedback was the inspiration for the Pop-up City Lounge which consists of two 40-foot shipping containers split into a series of ‘conversation cocoons’ where visitors can enjoy both privacy and table service. The pop-up will debut in Shoreditch (18-21 Sepetmber) as part of London Design Festival before travelling to Warsaw, Mexico, New York and Singapore.
Heineken have long established themselves as key players in both the sports and music industries, their foray into the design world is still very much in its youth but it will be interesting to keep an eye on the Dutch brand's progress and to see who follows suit, and this is an interesting example of democratising the design process.
