Hands On Studio does what it says on the tin. The intimate new Williamsburg studio offers workshops, master classes and seminars where student and instructor come together to get their hands dirty. All events will be led by New York’s leading artists, designers, makers and thinkers and will cover a wide range of disciplines from textile and sculpture techniques to natural skin care, plant care and cooking secrets.

The studio is that of renowned textile artist and designer Shabd Simon-Alexander who will also be teaching hand-dyeing, tie-dye and shibori classes.

With the omnipresence technology currently enjoys in our lives, relearning how to ‘make’ is one way for people to feel less like consumers and more like creators. And as the maker movement becomes increasingly prevalent, expect to see even more of these multifaceted social studios cropping up.

To delve deeper into this emerging trend, we’ve invited a panel of experts, all with different backgrounds in the maker industry, to discuss these developments, why they’re happening and where they’re going. The LDF x Protein Forum: Democracy in Design: The Modern Makers will be taking place on Monday 15th September at Protein’s Studio 2.
