London-based food collective The Art of Dining have brightenedup our January by hosting a 1970s Britain-themed pop-up dinner and exhibition.

The event, called Hackney-on-Sea, took place at F. Cooke’s pie and mash shop on Broadway Market, and was a collaboration between Moro-trained chef Ellen Parr, set designer Alice Hodge and The Horsebox Gallery founders Emma North and Jane McGill. With previous pop ups suchas Rations, which was a restaurant concept that took inspiration from World War II,Hackney-on-Sea takes its queue from traditional sea side resorts, equippedwith hanging seagulls, beach umbrellas and even a donkey on loan fromHackney’s local farm. The exhibition found above the restaurant is set within anoriginal 1970s family home and presents some of the most skilled screen printsproduced in the 70s and 80s by British Royal Academy professor and artist Tim Mara.

With a well-executed sea themed menu that evokes childhood nostalgia, open-minded foodies can once again dine together in a delightfully unexpected way.
