Information is the new procrastination. Just trying to keep up with Twitter’s daily deluge  of important world events, hilarious one-liners, and breaking food truck location updates  can waste half your day. Guide is a novel new platform that promises to help by turning  your favorite websites and social media feeds into a personalized news broadcast.

Essentially a text-to-speech engine, Guide narrates social media's intimate status  updates and friend-curated links in a way that feels perfect for morning runs, evening  commutes, or for streaming in the background at home on a smart TV. The app’s fun  visual twist is its emulation of television news, complete with custom anchor avatars  ranging from Harajuku girls to giant talking cats.

We’ve seen how apps like Spun are aiming to create a more personal web with  geotargetting and editorial filters. While Guide doesn't decide whether or not your entire  Facebook timeline is actually news-worthy, it allows this information overload to be  enjoyed passively, in a way that news-radio has been doing for years. If you want more  content curation than that, you're just going to have to pick better online friends.
