It seems the standard video lookbook formula – grainy shots, moody music, edgy models – isn’t quite cutting it anymore. Last month we saw how designer Phillip Lim innovated the format by creating a lookbook within a graphic novel, complete with illustrated neo-noir heroines clad in the label’s garments.

Now streetwear brand Burma is pushing the idea further with a virtual lookbook inspired by smash-hit video game Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

For its winter lookbook, the brand collaborated with GTA developers Rock Star Games to create a series of screengrab-style shots, each featuring characters that look like those in the game (and straight outta Ganton). Each of these virtual gangsters have been dressed in pixellated items from the label’s new collection.

As well as the visual style of the Los Santos world, players of the game will also recognise some of the backdrops, such the humble Grove St neighbourhood that features early on in the game. (Although we can’t work out if the lookbook characters are the actual characters from Los Santos – I can only remember Carl and OG Loc).

While fictional lookbooks like Burma’s and Phillip Lim’s lack practicality (it’s not the easiest way to see what a garment looks like in real life), they certainly catch the eye amongst the abundance of live-action video lookbooks across the internet.
