A precocious programmer from Seattle has created a free browser extension called Greenhouse, to shine a light on the undue influence money has on US Congress. Despite not being old enough to vote (Nicholas Rubin is 16), the high school sophomore is old enough to know that the political system desperately needs fixing.

The Greenhouse extension brings up detailed campaign contribution data for every Senator and Representative, including total amount received and breakdown by industry and by size of donation. Simply hover over the name of any member of Congress on any webpage and a popup will open with an incriminating breakdown of the donations they received from the last election cycle. Data in the popup will be updated later in this election cycle as 2014 contributions are more complete.

Politics is perhaps an area where this kind of transparency of information is most vital, and it's interesting to see innovative, effective ideas such as this crop up from such a young mind.
