Inventive creativity in food has undergone a bit of a renaissance in recent years, perhaps in part due to a need to stand out amongst the millions of food porn photos clogging up your Instagram. This interest in what everyone is eating has sparked competition amongst brands to deliver newfound ways of making food more exciting. We were recently introduced to ice cream that changes colour as it is licked, a project that supports the idea that inventiveness is very important when it comes to modern food design.

Contemporary food designers, Bompas & Parr have teamed up with ice cream pioneers Wall’s and come up with a glow in the dark Cornetto. Produced by mixing ice cream with riboflavin, which gives out a fluorescent glow under certain UV lights, the design was first put to use at a movie premier in Leicester Square, where the unsuspecting audience were surprised to see their ice cream light up bright yellow as soon as the cinema went dark.
