As we spend more and more time in the digital realm, it seems we're starting to place an increasing value on the physical and the tactile. As we've seen with Bioscope or Fliike, we seem to be seeking out objects that are the physical equivalents of our digital experiences.

Now, GIF buffs have a new interactive tool to brag about. Created by Italian designers Marco Calabrese and Alessandro Scali of OKKULT Motion Pictures, the Giphoscope is a hand-cranked device that plays animated GIFs frame by frame. Each analog gadget is handmade and is specifically designed to enhance the content of its frame. Users just have to send in their favourite GIF and the Giphoscope will be delivered at their doorstep.

With a starting price of  €299, selecting a single GIF might be a lot to ask Tumblr purveyors, but it's an interesting example of a physical manifestation of the digital.
