Gifpop
GIF-on-the-go: this project brings GIFs into the real world, and prints moving clips onto physical cards
Out of the screen and into your hands: Rachel Binx and Sha Hwang have created Gifpop, real-life personalised GIFs to share with your friends wherever you are. Using lenticular printing, a lo-fi technology that's been around since the 1940's, Binx and Hwang discovered a way to juxtapose and 'GIF-ify' ten frames of animation that can fit onto small cards.
The online service will let users convert thier own selection of images into a looping, analog format, and as has Gifpop easily trumped their $5,000 Kickstarter goal, they will also be able to create a converter that turns Vine and Instagram videos into tangible GIFs. Additionally, they have teamed up with renowned artists Mr. Div, 89-A, and Davidope to create GIFs exclusively for this project.
Like Vineflip and Instaprint, that create physical, tangible versions of Vine videos and Instagram photos respectively, Gifpop is another example of the digital being made real, and people's interest in creating more tactile experiences.
