Food shortage is a real issue – and many designers are offering solutions, which vary in their complexity and feasibility. Some believe the answer lies with introduction of insects into our diet, such as Mansour Ourasanah's Lepsis insect breeder, that allows you to grow your own creepy crawlies. Then there is also the technological approach, Cornucopia, for example, is a 3D printer that creates food from a variety of ingredients in the comfort of your own home.

And now designers are trying to creatively raise awareness of the issue, by exploring what it would be like to experience food scarcity and biodiversity loss caused by climate change. Ghostfood, by artists Miriam Simun and Miriam Songster is a wearable headpiece that delivers custom scents, allowing the participant to experience the flavour of foods on the brink of extinction. Operating out of a food truck that will be making a few appearances this month, starting with the DesignPhiladelphia launch party. This is a good example of creative thinkers employing advanced technologies to raise awareness on an issue like diminishing food resources
