Dave Garnish is the founder of the Garnish School of Sound. Over his recording career he’s worked with the likes of Janet Jackson, Madonna, Bjork, All Saints and Massive Attack. He learnt his trade working in recording studios such as Abbey Road and The Townhouse and it’s this hands on experience that led him to establish the music school. You’ll find Dave at The Book Club tonight on Leonard Street in Shoreditch where he’ll be joined by friends Alex Von Soos and Paul Waller to discuss all things music production (click here for more info). Alex will be taking guests through the magical steps that turn a song into a hit single – dissecting the ideas behind a song and getting to grips with the science of that infamous pop musical formula. MA and BA lecturer at the London Met, Paul Waller, will be imparting his wisdom on the effects of electricity on music. He knows what’s he talking about too, working with the likes of All Saints, BB King, Eric Clapton, Naughty by Nature and De La Soul. Studies on the effects of music have shown that this magical musical formula does in fact affect the way our brain works. We suggest you check out The Music Instinct: Science and Song website. They’ve been experimenting with Jarvis Cocker and Richard Hawley’s brain with interesting results...
