Fruit Mashup
Molecular gastronomist Clecia Ribeiro has created a selection of hybrid exotic fruits to promote electronics manufacturer Philips’ new Walita Avance blender
To promote electronics manufacturer Philips’ new Walita Avance blender, advertising agency Ogilvy Brazil enlisted the help of Brazilian molecular gastronomist Clecia Ribeiro to create a selection of exotic hybrid fruits.
To create the hybrids, Ribeiro pureed the delicate fruits, including strawberries, tangerines and grapes. She then combined the puree with thick-skinned fruits – such as bananas, kiwis and pineapples – and placed them in a vacuum-sealed bag. The whole fruits had a series of incisions in them to allow the puree to impart colour and flavour. The results included Kiwigerine (kiwi and tangerine), Bananaberry (banana and strawberry) and Pinegrape (pineapple and grape).
The advert details Ribeiro’s process and captures shoppers’ bewildered reactions the moment the new fruits were unveiled at a market in Sao Paulo. Fruit Mashup sits well with consumer desire for novel experiences, particularly in the world of comestibles.
