It would be strange to describe the sense of smell as being on trend, but it does seem to be the case. We've seen it entering the world of advertising with SensaBubble, and even more recently, the culinary world with The Edible Mist Machines, and now it's arrived to the world of Mixology.

On June 12th 2014 The Ritz-Carlton Berlin will open its doors to Fragrances, a new multi-sensory Mixology experience in which drinks are selected via scent, presented like bottled perfume. The days of smokey bars will be a distant memory as the creations of 'Cocktail Whisperer' Arnd Henning Heissen fill the room with the different memories the scents evoke. To maintain a visual presence each drink's ingredients are also displayed in glass domes accompanied by a large portrait of the final presentation. Visitors were met with this visual menu upon walking into the bar, allowing them to interact with everything on offer before making your decision. To heighten the drama of the experience, each drink is served in a particular way, using anything from the traditional glass to a rather less traditional birdhouse. To be seduced by a sense of smell has always been an almost unconscious act, but with such developments like the Fragrances bar selling their product based on its scent, we could see a change in the ways we interact simply by thinking with our noses for a change.
