As Spotify remains a regular go-to for music streaming, the team behind Forgotify — San Francisco based art director Lane Jordan, developers J Hausmann and Nate Gagnon — have decided to shed light on the songs that have not been played even once on the site, all 4 million of them.

The team have developed a program which scans Spotify for tracks that have a zero-plays rating and enables website visitors to stream these songs. Users must be logged into a Spotify account to use the site and a random track will be generated — though once a song has been played once, it will no longer appear on the Forgotify rotation.

As the Spotify library is constantly growing, Forgotify has not yet been able to make a dent in the 4 million unheard songs, but the team describe themselves as being motivated instead by a love of music, giving neglected tracks their three minutes of fame. It's also interesting to note that, as each song can only be played once before it's disqualified from the playlist, there's an interesting version of limited media at play here, with the idea of Spotify's 'unlimited music' angle being turned on its head.
