For many of us, fast food has become a staple on road trips. Easy to find, convenient, reliable (often reliably bad), there’s always a cheeseburger or a greasy snack to fill the hunger pang on a long drive. Thanks to Food Tripping, a new app from sustainability-focused multi-media platform SHFT, there’s no reason to eat unhealthy while on the road. Developed by SHFT co-founders actor Adrian Grenier and film producer Peter Glatzer, Food Tripping was designed to help consumers make informed decisions about the food around them. Grenier says, “what this tool is, is a filter to cut through all the clutter and find the best food wherever you are.

SHFT teamed up with Ford to integrate the app with the company’s MyFord Touch digital command software, enabling drivers to sync-up with out taking their eyes off the road. Although designed for the road, the app is equally friendly towards urban dwellers, allowing them to discover healthy alternatives in their own neighbourhoods.

The user interface is clean and simple with a colour coding system to distinguish different categories such as: farmer’s markets, food markets, coffee and tea, vegan and vegetarian, etc. Unable to find what you’re looking for out of the 50,000 restaurants, farmer’s markets and food stores as well as 100,000 points of interest? The app allows for user generated suggestions to grow the database.
