The Folio Society's spring collection illustrates classic fiction with a classy, modern touch.

Artists were commissioned to show us their takes on timeless works, including Frederick Forsyth's The Day Of The Jackal, Douglas Adams' Life, the Universe and Everything, and Jules Verne's Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Respectively these are illustrated by Tatsuro Kiuchi, Jonathan Burton, and Jillian Tamaki.
Also re-released and re-imagined are Kierkegaard's Fear and Trembling, illustrated by Paul Scheruebel, and Apollonius of Rhodes' the Voyage of Argo, illustrated by Daniel Egnéus. All of the books feature special introductions, with Ken Follett introducing The Day of the Jackal and Jon Canter introducing Life, the Universe and Everything.
These editions proudly flaunt the Folio Society's high sense for aesthetics, proving that despite all the tech-evangelising naysayers, there is still a market for the right physical products in a digital world. Conversely, some publishers are experimenting bridging the physical with the digital. An online companion for Khaled Hossein's latest book, And The Mountains Echoed, the Echo Project saw artists contributing their own interactive online interpretations for each of the book's 402 pages.
