California-based distillery Hangar 1 have teamed up with non-profit Canadian conservation charity FogQuest to create Fogpoint, a vodka that sources 60% of its ingredients from fog harvested water.

Modern day consumers are acutely aware of their ability to shape the agenda surrounding social, economic and environmental concerns.

Thanks to an unprecedented level of connection and openness, a shared willingness to confront the big issues has been adopted by consumers and brands alike. As a result, a range of products whose purpose goes beyond financial gain have been created.

Fogpoint Vodka - a collaborative effort from Californian vodka producers Hangar 1 and conservation group FogQuest - is just one such sustainably sourced example.

Hangar 1 designed large-scale mesh fog catchers in consultation with FogQuest that were subsequently suspended above a trough. The catchers then turned the plentiful Bay Area fog into thousands of litres worth of water, 60% of which can be found in the grape-based distillate drink.

As well as drawing much needed attention to the growing drought crisis in the area, all profits made from the sales of Fogpoint will go directly towards future conservation projects in California.

Swedish homeware giants IKEA recently unveiled a range of products designed to encourage sustainable habits in their customers.
