As the daughter of a physicist and a science writer, Japanese artist Fujiko Nakaya has always been fascinated by nature. She was one of the first artists to work with water vapour, creating sculptural fog environments, and giving people a chance to literarily walk in the clouds.

Her latest misty sculpture, mysteriously called Fog Bridge #72494, is based in San Francisco Bay Area. It stretches across the 150ft long pedestrian bridge that spans Piers 15 to 17. Powerful pumps blast water at high pressure through more than 800 nozzles that line the bridge, immersing visitors in mist and creating a surreal environment.

Fujiko’s project coincides with the reopening of the Exploratorium, and will be open until the 16th of September.
