Staying connected with the world at large is not so much a modern problem. Staying engaged with it could well be. Our lives as online avatars often taking precedence as we document our every moves before we've really lived them. Even being without a smartphone or WiFi can be an anxiety inducing experience. Now, a collaboration between conceptual fashion designer Kunihiko Morinaga, Party and AID-DCC hopes to change our personal interactions with a line of clothing that shields electromagnetic waves, putting the wearer out of immediate electronic contact. The collection goes by the name Focus and was unveiled at Toronto Fashion Week. The primary function is for protection from what the designer calls a "storm of information", just about as valid as any torrential downpour.More than ever before, consumers are feeling overwhelmed about the constant stream of information online, and designers seem to be taking note. Blokket, for example, is a pouch that blocks signals from reaching your phone, forcing the user to switch off. The desire for offline privacy and the fact that so much of our time is consumed online is also being highlighted in a curious way - Stealth Wear  made its debut earlier this year, an exhibition of "anti-surveillance" fashion.
