FLTR is a new bespoke publication for smartphone users and photography fanatics that brings these two worlds together in one easily accessible iPhone app. Created by the team behind the British Journal of Photography, the publication launched on December 16th and is the world's first-ever weekly magazine that deals exclusively with photography produced on a smartphone camera.
Available through the iTunes store, FLTR offers amateur photographers an opportunity to gain recognition through submitting their images for publication. The magazine is designed to inspire the next generation of digital image creators who channel their creativity through non-traditional platforms such as Instagram. The first issue features a thought-provoking article by professor of photography and imaging at New York University, Fred Ritchin, on the impact smartphones have during traumatic events such as 9/11, as well as an interview with Instagram superstar VuTheara Kham and a profile on The New York Times director of photography, Kathy Ryan, who makes extensive use of Instagram to share her own images and source photographers for commission.
Bringing credible journalism direct to your smartphone, FLTR is an interesting new offering amongst a wealth of highly specialist bespoke publications that have been making their way into circulation recently, including Riposte and TALC.
