Flavour Conductor
A multi sensory experience that allows you to feel Whisky's depth of flavour
With the Flavour Conductor food design studio Bompass and Parr have bought together centuries of skilled practices in literature, science and technology to create an epic multi-sensory experience.
Designed for Johnnie Walker Blue Label the designers commisioned British organ specialists Mander's Organs to create the performance piece, A Symphony in Blue which made it's premiere at London's Merchant Taylor Hall on the 16th September before touring the world. the main focus of the performance comes in the form of the organ named the flavour conductor. Using the expertise of Oxford Professor Charles Spence the designers matched musical notes to the flavours found in the whisky, the idea being that these flavours become accentuated while the notes are playing. Over the course of the performance flavours such as peat, malt, fruit, wood and spices will come to the forefront demonstrating the depth in the whisky's flavour. The idea stems from literary sources such as J.K Huysmans novel A Rebours and Aldous Huxley's Brave New World which both shared ideas of a flavour organ that gives taste to music.
Bompass and Parr are no strangers to such extravagance bringing a sense theatre to our taste buds since 2007 but a trend in new ways has been growing. In the Summer a bar in Berlin called Fragrances allowed you to create your drinks by scent. While Beatballs concentrated on the musical side allowing you to taste your favourite songs with the app converting your favourite songs into Meatball recipe.
