Turn your work out into Bitcoin credit with a new fitness appFitCoin is a new app that syncs with a range of wearable trackers to monitor your training activity and turn it into pocket money. An algorithm measures workout variables, such as intensity, length, heart rate, and converts the effort into Bitcoins. "If you do loads of cardio we can make it so you get more rewards for doing strength training," says creative technologist Eric Schneider, of innovative hardware studio Chaotic Moon. "Think about marathons, if everyone's using FitCoin you can make money for charity."Crypto-currencies and other alternative payment methods have changed the way we think about money as a standard physical commodity used in exchange for goods or services. At the same time, financial prizes still work as one of the most powerful incentives to change people’s behaviour. Linking these two trends, Chaotic Moon have created an innovative concept app that rewards users with a digital currency for their fitness activity. As the app picks up, developers are hoping to offer users their own crypto-currency, which they could use in exchange for sport gear and lower health insurance rates. Although still a prototype, FitCoin was recently demonstrated at the SxSW festival in Austin, Texas.
