Have you ever cut your finger whilst home alone cooking, and with a bleeding hand tried to dig out the first-aid-kit at the back of your medicine cupboard, followed by the struggle of securing a plaster without making a bloody mess?

Royal Collage of Art graduate Gabrielè Meldaikyte solves the above problem with her project First Aid Kit. She has observed that traditional first aid kits are dysfunctional in real life and that an increasing number of people are treating themselves at home. As well as having a nice design that is easy to visualise on people’s kitchen or bathroom walls, it has an interesting and practical element; it is designed to use with only one hand.

We have previously featured Meldaikyte’s project Multi-Touch Gestures, a design concept that explored her thinking around ‘one-handedness’ in a completely different context; the future of communication and gestures.
