Commissioned by Wyoming’s Teton County Library, E/B Office set out to design a visually arresting installation that brings to life human curiosity and quest for knowledge.

The dynamic information-driven sculpture is made out of 1,000 fiber optic cables hanging above, each cable representing 1,000 categories of interest. Whenever someone, anywhere in the state, performs a search of the library’s digital catalog, the corresponding filament lights up that search in a flash of colour.

Situated in the library’s lobby, Filament Mind aspires to communicate how individual questions and thoughts turn into collective intelligence. The installation will continuously adapt and absorb new forms of information as they are invented, this ability to reflect the evolution of human knowledge making the piece evermore relevant.
