Fiera is a new print magazine, by editor Katie Treggiden and designer Jeremy Leslie (of Magculture), that scours the world’s best design fairs for up-and-coming talent, while providing a range of insight, trend analysis as well as long-form features.

Previously Treggiden covered fairs for a range of publications, as well as her own blog Confessions of A Design Geek, but while she felt the reportage was dynamic and exciting it was also too ephemeral. “I felt that something more permanent was needed,” she says. “A print publication that captures all of that excitement while making sense of it all.”

The launch taps into the resurgence of independent print publishing. Consumers are increasingly trading screen time for digital downtime, when they sit back and digest well-crafted, distilled editorial, as we discussed at our forum on The Future of Publishing.

For the first issue Fiera visited the London Design Festival, Designblok in Prague, the Lodz Design Festival and the Biennale Interieur, while highlighted key trends, including; ‘honesty of materials and process’, ‘playfulness with colour’ and ‘mindful design’. Fashion designer Paul Smith and artist Allen Jones also grace it pages.

Treggiden sees the biannual publication as a resource for designers, design buyers, design journalists, bloggers, and design enthusiasts who might aim to visit the main fairs, but don’t have the time to fully explore them, or a range of new festivals off the beaten track. Order your copy here.
