There is certainly no shortage of apps offering suggestions of where to go/what to do, should you be stuck for inspiration - home or away. But these are suggestions based on collated subjective reviews or algorithms based on what a computer thinks you’ll like. Both methods lack personality; what you really want are recommendations made by like-minded people, people with similar tastes; your mates.
Developers Adam Johnson and Joseph McMahon have created FAVD, a location discovery app built on a worldwide map of recommendations by people whose tastes you trust. Users can share their favourite spots with their followers and browse those pinned by friends. FAVD also features specially curated maps by influential collaborators like Lori Goldstein, Darcel Disappoints , Assume Vivid Astro Focus and chef Kenny Addington.
Discovering authentic local experiences is getting easier and the process increasingly more reliable. For our next Protein Journal the focus will be on travel and we’ll be taking a look at how our digital interconnectedness is democratising travel for everyone.
