The integration of social media sites into our day to day lives is now so seamless it feels like they have always been there, but this may not be the case for those of an older generation, to some of whom they might as well be unknown worlds.

For the hyper-connected current generation of social media users, having well-meaning family online has the potential to get a tad awkward: they join to enjoy a connection with their family, and they get that, along with everything else the grandkids are up to - for better or for worse. The co-founders of a new digital photo frame called Famatic appear to be tackling both problems at once, with Thijs Suijtencomes and Peter Rimmelzwaan's gizmo appearing on Kickstarter and subsequently winning a lot of attention.

Famatic is a platform where photos can be shared directly from social media sites without the user needing to join for themselves. Users are able to upload pictures from anywhere, and it's also possible to set up multiple accounts so that the whole family can share their pictures. The photographs can be stored and browsed with a swipe of a finger, and poor old grandpa can enjoy a sense of connectivity without actually being connected to anyone, though it is possible to comment on shared pictures without actually being active on social media itself.
