Facebook has unveiled its new, standalone mobile app: Paper. Designed by Facebook Creative Labs, Paper is set to completely revamp the mobile Facebook model. Elegantly designed to provide an immersive and intuitive experience, the aim of the app is to create a personal newspaper populated with content from not only friends, but also well-known publications.

Like the traditional newspaper, Paper is made up of sections – each section housing a plethora of content. The first section in your Paper is your Facebook news feed, with following sections (like technology, design, sport and music) easily customisable according to the user’s preferences.

This is the social media giant evolving to provide a more considered, seamless and editorial mobile experience for its platform (Facebook has been rumoured to be hiring editorial curators to select high-quality third party content), and it's interesting to see it making active efforts to embrace its function as a news distributor, which is a role it's had, perhaps more passively, for years.

Paper will be available to download for iOS today.
