A group of students at Les Ateliers-Paris Design Institute have collaborated on a project called Fabrique Hacktion that aims to improve urban environments for the public.

The students design, build and install 'grafts' across Paris using the school’s resources and technologies, allowing them to go from prototype to custom-built pieces in a short space of time. These grafts are functional objects that are incorporated into urban spaces to help people perform simple, useful tasks. Designs range from coat hooks that are attached to walls, dynamo iPhone chargers, and plastic bag recycling units. All the designs are available for download online to encourage others get involved and create grafts in their own city.

Similar to guerrilla gardening, this is a simple idea that encourages us to collectively improve our cities. We hope that the open-source nature of the project will mean it has potential to start a worldwide movement.
