Ever wondered how the Olympic Games, promoted as a generation-inspiring event, were actually perceived by the public? Emoto, a Future Everything data art project, that visualises global emotion, answers exactly this question. By tracking social media websites, emoto visualises the ebb and flow around hot topics during the Olympics and clearly marks emotional outbursts, such as the reactions to Michael Phelps breaking the Olympic medal record or Bradley Wiggins winning gold for Team GB.

Created by Moritz Stefaner, Drew Hemment and Studio NAND, the website shows interactive digital displays and 3D sculptures of all data collected during the Olympic Games as well as real-time visualisations of the ongoing Paralympics.

The project concludes with a huge data sculpture installation at the WE PLAY Expo in Presto, complete with projections, interactive landscapes and a timeline of the Games in tweets. It's a fascinating data visualisation project - check it out for yourself this weekend.
