It has become normal to spend every minute of our lives engrossed in our screens whether it be at home, at work or even with friends. We are, frankly, digitally obsessed.

In response, Alexei Shulgin and Aristarkh Chernyshev, the duo behind the art production company, Electroboutique, have created a series of designs that will challenge the public to think critically about their relationships with technology. These will be on display at the Science Museum in London until February.

Created over a period of seven years, their work is a fun display of how they perceive the age of digital dependence through the use of live data and technology such as Augmented Reality. Even more impressive is how the exhibited designs put the spotlight on issues such as capitalism and media control. Considering how the negative effects of these issues link to technological development, can we deem all progress of this nature to be bad?

Here at Protein we explored the idea of using technology to curb society's tech-based habits through 'digital downtime'. Our Slow Technology exhibition showcased how a range of innovative devices and services can promote a more healthy and less dependent relationship with our prized possessions. Proving this to be a viable concept, the Electroboutique is a great protest that can encourage the public to wean themselves off of their digital addictions.

The Electroboutique will be open until the 14th Feb 2012. For more information please visit the Science Museum website here.
