A new exhibition has recently opened at Eindhoven's Designhuis called 'Eating by Design', an informative exploration into food culture by premsela, the Netherlands institute for design and fashion. The show focuses on food and its role within society, with over 20 artists and designers exploring the origins of what we eat, methods of production, future food sources and how our food choices intersects with design.

There is a wide range of exhibits on show, employing a range of different mediums and formats. Mutatoes, a project by Uli Westphal, for example, presents a container of wasted vegetables to explore the commercial specifications of industrial production, while Mediamatic has constructed an aquaponic system that has the potential to be a sustainable production solution for small communities. Looking to the future, a 3D printer prints everything from chocolates to avocados while Mark Kantes explores how viable in vitro meat could be.

Like the Future of Food forum we hosted last month and the briefing on the Ento project, Eating by Design is an interesting overview of our current consumption culture and uses innovative design to get people thinking about food provenance and future solutions. Check it out here.
