Right now there's a crisis going on in East Africa. A catastrophic drought has left a population in famine, and it's getting worse by the minute. As a result the United Nations estimates that over 600,000 children will die in the next few months. We felt we had to do something to help the charity effort. So we offered our gallery space, 18 Hewett Street, to East2East who teamed up with Shiftworks Studio and Beck's beer to host a fundraiser event on Thursday 18th August. East2East invited a team of local DJs down to the space and told them to play music under the theme ‘songs that shaped me’. The format for the evening was a tag-team system, where each DJ played for 20 minutes before a klaxon sounded for the next DJ to jump behind the decks. DJs playing on the night included New Young Pony Club, Matt Walsh, Rory Phillips, The Duke Spirit, Girlcore, and many more. There was a cake stall, burgers from the award-winning Meatwagon, and raffle giveaways from FRAME studio, Whistles, Mason & Taylor and many more.   The suggested donation for entry was £5, with proceeds going to the DEC appeal which is working to raise money and aid for the East African crisis. We are pleased to announce that the event raised £2361. Here are some photos from the party, courtesy of photographer Christopher James.
