Digital Natives is the latest project by artist Matthew Plummer-Fernandez, that explores digital aesthetics and the latest consumer technologies in 3D printing.

In the sculptural series Plummer-Fernandez takes everyday objects, such as tea-pots, cups and detergent bottles, then 3D scans them using a digital camera. The pieces are then altered through algorithms – distorting their appearance – then 3D printed in a coloured resin and sandstone composite.

Using his custom-made software, each piece can be either entirely distorted – adding new spikes and curvature – or play on more subtle lines of its form. The objects will be on display at the upcoming 3D Printshow in London.

Matthew will also be on the panel of speakers at our own 3D printing Forum: The Future of Making. Spots are going fast, so click here to find out more and book your place.
