Desktop Publishing
Print posters, text and more on a beautifully designed, simple to use hand printing press.
Peter Chadwick and Jonny Holmes of London design studio Popular's latest project ventures into desktop publishing, literally. Taking a simple table the design studio have transformed it into a physical printing press. Offering all the facilites of a manual printing press, the Desktop Publishing can accomodate four different colours and the plates are totally interchangeable, so it's capable of printing any design.
The press serves as a refreshingly well designed homage to the traditional printing presses widely used in the past. As a user friendly, effective publishing tool, this opens up all sorts of potential for hands-on printing workshops as well a way for those without any prior experience to get stuck into the publishing game.
With so many projects focussing on digitising and relaying on technology wherever possible, it's interesting to see something that encourages such a hands on approach to artistic endeavours.
