Tretsk1n is a collection of products and clothing designed to help prevent dehydration

With the possibility of widespread global drought looming large, designers and thinkers are looking for solutions to one of the world’s most pressing problems. Central Saint Martins MA graduate Jamie Tai has created a range of clothing and skincare products to aid survival in what may be a drought-stricken future.

The entire collection, entitled Tretsk1n, is made using trehalose, a natural sugar that protects cells from dehydration, which enables a wide range of organisms to survive in extreme environments. Tai has also included electronic tattoos to track hydration levels and inform users when they need to re-apply products.

Designing solutions for future environmental issues is vital. Ooho was another response to a big environmental problem but this time rather than water, designers tackled the topic of plastic waste.
