Dan Deacon last week launched a free app for smartphones that promises to bolster audience participation in a frenzy of strobing light.

The app, which remarkably works without wifi or data usage, synchronises audience phones to one another and sends out pulses of light in rhythm with the sounds playing. Responsive also to each phones relative location, the light show moves through the crowd, creating a ripple of colour in its path.

The ability to mobilise groups of people has always been the championing factor of much new technology, as well as the focus of Dan Deacons performance, so it is fitting this app is released to coincide with the launch of his second studio album, America. It's an interesting way to enhance the concert experience and engage fans in an interactive manner. Check out the video above for more info.
