Audiovisual artist NOhista and Collectif Coin recently collaborated to create Cyclique, a dynamic installation that aims to make sound visually tangible. Cyclique connects 256 helium balloons fitted with LED lights into a seven-hundred square metre grid that gently floats in the wind and reacts to the music being played. As each balloon individually lights up to different audio stimuli, the installation results in a massive optical pattern representative of the sounds being played.

The installation makes use of Ableton Live and Resolume to translate audio fragments into visual interpretations of the music. With Cyclique, its creators strive to immerse their viewers into a synaesthetic landscape that blurs the lines between the senses of sight and hearing. The concept was recently unveiled in Amiens, France as a twenty-five minute exhibition and is currently being redeveloped into a more interactive version of the original.
