'Covenant', a solo show by artist, Daniel Rapley, is currently running at the Payne Shurvell gallery in Shoreditch. The centre piece of the exhibition is simply entitled ‘Bible,’ and represents a painstaking feat of endurance, which saw the artist copy out the entire scripture of the King James edition of the Bible.

The project took over eighteen months to complete. However the piece is being shown so that only the first page of the full manuscript is visible, meaning the viewer has to take a bit of a leap of faith to believe the rest has actually been completed.

His work is minimal, masking the fact that it is highly labour intensive, and all painstakingly hand rendered. Other pieces on show include pencil drawings of text that are so regular they look like prints and hand cut collages. The emphasis is really on the labour and skill, and is well worth checking out.

‘Covenant’ runs until 3rd March at Payne Shurvell on Hewett St in Shoreditch.
