At the recent CES show, footwear reinventors Digitsole did just that with the world's first intelligent footwear, the Smartshoe. The advent of wearable technology has thus far been more of a novelty than a way to really improve the standard of your living. From charging trousers to solar panel dresses and the more conceptual tech-fashion jacket from Hacktivist, designers have employed the use of technology for the benefit of technology, not necessarily design.

Although the same could be said of some of these sneaker styles, innovation is the name of the game when it comes to trainers. Dubbed, "the world's first intelligent footwear," Digitsole's Smartshoe includes several components which aid the comfortability and performativity of the shoe. A system of sensors are connected to a smartphone app which enable you to keep track of various health factors such as distance, calories and steps. The trainers have an automatic tightening and loosening system controlled via the app and the kicks also boast a built-in heating system.

The Smartshoe may not be the kind of footwear you want to wear everyday, but the technology it features has the ability to transform some peoples lives, those less able-bodied or people facing extreme temperatures. Technology and innovation go hand in hand with sportswear, as brands are continually striving for products that boast performativity. So perhaps it won't be long before we see these kinds of technology more thoroughly integrated into our day-to-day.
