Maintaining an eco-friendly lifestyle can be hard work. From your recycling habits to the choices you make about travel, there’s a lot of effort to be made. Consumerism is now infiltrated with ‘eco-friendly’ slogans as brands promise their products are more sustainable. But there’s a lot of debate around how much they do to actually benefit the environment.
Startup company Sustain:Green make things a lot clearer by putting you in full control of your carbon footprint. Their biodegradable credit cards are designed to sustain the planet each time you spend money. “Every dollar you spend with your Sustain:Greencredit card reduces your carbon footprint, fights climate change and preserves the rainforest. Make a difference,” reads their website.
Sustain:Green has partnered with conservationists of the Brazilian rainforest, Mata No Peito who provide the offsets you earn as a cardholder. Each time you spend, another tree is planted, which means CO2 can be reversed into O2 for a better environment. Cardholders can access data provided by the American Carbon Registry (ACR), who monitor the total offsets accumulated and the impact they had on reducing CO2.
Like GreenHotelWorld, a new holiday booking agent that helps travellers find the most eco-conscious hotels, Sustain:Green hopes to create a lifestyle around environmentally-responsible consumption by partnering up with like-minded businesses and organisations.
