DesignMiami/Basel showcased work from 35 of design galleries from ten different countries across the globe last week. Amongst the wealth of designers, one of the artists who caught our eye was emerging talent Asif Khan. The London-based designer won his place at the show after winning the W HotelDesigners of the Future Award along with Micher’Traxler and Studio Juiu. The brief for the project was to create ‘Conversational Pieces’ that through design can inspire new connections and interaction.

Khan’s conceptual ‘Cloud’ installation uses helium gas, water and soap to create a floating roof. ‘In the future architecture will be light, intelligent and simple - like clouds,’ said Khan. ‘The Cloud experiment is about beginning that process to discover the future of architecture. Maybe we can carry a building in our pocket?’ Hopefully, one day, we can.
