'Writing in the books' is probably #2 on the list of Universal Library No-No's, right behind 'Talking loudly'. Artist Christian Moeller is breaking that rule and making Dixie College‘s new library in St. George, Utah, a little more collaborative by asking visitors to contribute to a special collection of books.

Clouds is a 28' x 22' aluminum bookshelf holding almost 12,000 blank sketch books, each of which has a custom-dyed linen spine. Similar to the technique of pointillism, the collection creates an abstract design when viewed at close range, and makes the image of a cloud when viewed at a distance. Visitors to Dixie College's library are encouraged to use the books for personal notebooks or scrapbooks before returning them to be restocked, presumably in the same order.
