An innovative video app is taking musical talent competitions to the next level

Drawing inspiration from the likes of X Factor and The Voice, Chosen chief executive David Hyman is moving mass media to the small screen, with a fast paced mobile homage to the hit TV shows.

Billed as an all-inclusive platform with an 8,000 song catalogue, the video karaoke app enables anyone to share their vocal talent in a bid to receive points, badges and constructive criticism. For those who fancy themselves as the next Simon Cowell, judges can also compete for status and rewards by creating their own video responses.

Having invested $6.5 million dollars in the project, Hyman is keeping Chosenfree for a year until in-app purchases are incorporated. If the app maintains popularity, Hyman also has aspirations of producing an online show.

We're demanding more and more content on the go, and entertainment platforms on smartphone devices are not only gaining in popularity but competing with traditional TV formats. Commuters are as likely to watch a series of Vines on their train journey to work as they are an episode of Cucumber. Smartphones are becoming a bubble of personalised media we carry everywhere and anywhere.
