Combining arcade gaming with interactive storytelling, the Choosatron is a Deluxe Adventure Matrix that takes inspiration from the classic Choose Your Own Adventure stories popular in the 1980s.

Designed by Jerry Belich, this quaint little machine produces stories that readers can engage with by choosing from multiple story arcs, using a simple four number keypad. This playful device comes in the form of a DIY kit that users can build themselves, comprised of a Sparx Core Wi-Fi development kit, thermal printer and twee outer shell. Players can compete for the best score for each tale, which are printed as they play on reams of receipt paper, allowing users to keep a physical memento of each literary journey taken with the Choosatron.

Just like the Fisher Price Record, the Choosatron uses contemporary technology to reappropriate classic children’s entertainment, turning its back on LCD screens in favour of something more tangible and charming. If this sounds like something you could get stuck into then feel free to donate to the Kickstarter here.
