AIAIAI's new modular headphone system lets you do just that
“TMA-2 Modular is a case of including the user in the product and giving him or her ownership,” explains Lars Larson, founder of luxury product designers Kilo and head of design for AIAIAI’s latest headphones. “I think that a lot of users want a degree of influence and there’s an individualizing process in being able to build your own product.”
The Copenhagen-based audio design company’s new headphone concept provides a vast range of interchangeable options across sound, function, comfort and design. TMA-2 Modular is a state-of-the-art system developed from the TMA-1 series that lets you create your own personalised headphone - while enabling a quick and easy change of individual parts along the way. “If one part stops working, you don’t have to go and buy a new product,” says Larson. “You just buy a new part and upgrade according to your needs.”
Much like Dave Haakkens’ Phonebloks concept, and since then Google Ara, not only do modular headphones offer game changing customisation, but they urge people to reassess the disposability of their electronics. Why throw away the whole when you can replace the parts?
