All coffee aficionados should know that the secret of a perfect flat white relies both on the quality of the blend, as well as on the barista’s skills. So it’s a wonder how we’ve been trusting humans for so long to prepare our favourite hot drink flawlessly, when this task rather requires a robotic precision.

Now start-up Briggo has partnered up with designer Yves Behar and Fuseprojectto launch an entirely automated kiosk that delivers outstanding artisan coffees 24/7. The Briggo Coffee Haus takes orders on the spot via a touch-screen display, or via web, or an iOS app if you’d like your coffee ready at a certain time. It features all the perks of a regular coffee shop. Customers are able to customize their drinks by adding soymilk, extra espresso shots, or flavoured syrup. Also, a unique rating system allows buyers to give feedback on their drink, so next time they use the kiosk their coffee will be impeccable.

Although this is not the first kiosk completely staffed by robots – we’ve previously mentioned Makr Shakr – in this case, the designers shied away from an overtly 'tech-y' look by wrapping the booth in curvy wood and branding it with retro typography.

For now the smart coffee shops are being tested at the University of Texas in Austin, but Briggo plans to bring them soon to airports, hospitals, and corporate campuses all across the United States.
