BitchCoin is an alternative digital currency that trades on the photography of Sarah Meyohas. By purchasing 1 BitchCoin, the buyer will be entitled to 25 square inches of a Mehoyas photographic print. The cryptocurrency allows art collectors to invest directly in Meyohas as an artist rather than investing in the artwork itself.

For potential investors, it’s a bet on the artist with no expiration. Meyohas promises BitchCoin will be fixed at an exchange rate of 100 US dollars, even if the value of the photography increases. As her work changes in value over time, so will the relative value of BitchCoin.

BitchCoin is the focus of “Where 6,” an exhibition on prediction at Where, a gallery and publishing house in a shipping container in Brooklyn. 200 coins will be sold at the launch of the first tradable photograph, entitled Speculation, and from then on BitchCoins can be exchanged for Speculation prints or other like photographs that Meyohas produces in the future.

The value of an artist’s work can often fluctuate wildly on the market as it changes hands between collectors, without any permission of, or compensation to, the artist. BitchCoin gives Sarah Meyohas a stake in the supply, demand, and price of her own work.
