Pretty much since the Internet pulled the rug out from under the music industry, recording artists and labels have been putting a lot of creative thought into how their music is obtained and experienced (see: Yeasayer, Bobby Womack, Kitsune and Adam Tensta.)Monosyllabic recording artist Beck’s latest album will be released in December 2012 without ever having been recorded. Beck Hansen's Song Reader is 20 tracks that exist only as individual pieces of sheet music.

Beck's website says, "The Song Reader is an experiment in what an album can be at the end of 2012— an alternative that enlists the listener in the tone of every track, and that’s as visually absorbing as a dozen gatefold LPs put together."

We're excited to see if Beck records and releases any of his own tracks from The Song Reader, or if this album will exist exclusively as unsolicited covers recorded by other musicians.
